Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe?

: Statistically, your drive to Patriot Place is more dangerous! Indoor skydiving is a safe activity to enjoy with family, friends, and coworkers! Each flight class attends a safety briefing with a certified instructor prior to flying. An instructor is in the wind with you to help keep you safe and give you flying instructions. Our flight instructors must pass physical and cognitive capability testing, multi-week training programs, and weekly continuous spot training for each flying discipline to maintain their flight instructor currency.

Is it scary?

: For some customers, yes the concept of indoor skydiving will be scary. We really enjoy helping our customers navigate those feelings. Initially, we had these feelings ourselves, and so assisting you to come to terms with flying (if it is a bit scary) is very rewarding for us! As flying is such a unique and novel feeling for humans, often times, facing that uncertainty makes one experience anxiety or hesitation towards the unknown. All of these feelings are perfectly normal responses. You have likely heard of the fight-or-flight response… well we are here to help you approach and master the flight response! And for those of us who are experienced flyers, we’ve come to enjoy the transformative feeling that flight instills in us. We at Freedom Wind want you to have a sublime experience and are here to help you not only safely navigate those feelings but also to learn to defy gravity while gaining confidence in the wind and in yourself. Let us leave you with a quote from Erin Hanson’s poem: the poem reads:

“There is freedom waiting for you, On the breezes of the sky, And you ask “What if I fall?” Oh but my darling, What if you fly?”

How old do you have to be to fly?

: Flyers must be 30 months AND potty trained to fly. Flyers will be asked to hold a flying-body position and follow directions in the wind.

Is there a weight limit?

: Here at Freedom Wind, we work to allow everyone to experience the freedom of flight. Flyers must be able to fit into the entrance of the tunnel safely and wear our rental flight suits. Generally, we defer to a weight to height ratio scale.

Flyers below 5’ 6” must weight below 250 lbs

Flyers below 6’ must weigh below 300 lbs

Flyers below 6’ 4” must weigh below 350 lbs

Flyers above 6’ 7” or 351 lbs with the height of at least 6′ 5″ should contact accommodations at courtney@freedomwind.us to coordinate their flights

The safety of our flyers and instructors is our number one priority. Freedom Wind reserves the right to reasonably refuse flights to any customer for the safety of the flyer and/or instructor.

Can anyone fly?

: We recommend that all flyers are in good health and physical condition. Customers with previous shoulder injuries/dislocations, neck injuries, back injuries, heart conditions, or any other condition that may increase your risk for injury, should NOT fly. We recommend that flyers are cleared to participate by their Primary Care Physician. If you are pregnant, you should not fly. Freedom Wind does help customers with special accommodations fly whenever possible. If you have any additional questions or concerns about flying ability or need a special accommodation for anyone in your group, please contact accommodations at courtney@freedomwind.us

Can I give my flight package to someone else?

: Presale Packages make wonderful gifts and party experiences. Presale Flight packages do not expire and do not have to be scheduled a time of purchase.

How do I breathe in the wind tunnel?

: Flyers should breathe normally in the wind tunnel. It feels a bit like sticking your head out of a car window like a dog cruising down the highway!

Can I take photos and videos during my flight session?

: Of course! If there isn’t a picture, did it even happen?? Electronics are not permitted in the flight chamber so make sure to bring a photographer to spectate! We will be taking photos and videos of you throughout your flight session, including photos of your higher flight experience if you choose to embark! Media is available for purchase with your instructor after your flights. Need more media? We have additional media coverage for all those influencers out there that can be added on to your packages prior to flying.

What do I need to bring to my flight session?

: Freedom Wind will provide you with professional training, a flight suit (like a cool onesie), ear protection, goggles, and your choice of helmet. All rental gear is sanitized after each session. Flyers will be most comfortable arriving in athletic wear and closed toe, lace up athletic shoes. Flyers may safely wear their glasses with our helmets and goggles if they so choose. We want you to be able to see in there! For everyone’s safety, flyers will be required to remove jewelry, some hair accessories, and completely empty pockets prior to flying. We do have optional rental shoes, and free, secure lockers if needed. Our merch store has has articles of clothing available for purchase as well!

I have long hair, what do I do?

: It’s a little windy in there… we suggest that you wear your hair in a ponytail that will be flipped up into your helmet or a low braid that will remain out of the helmet for the duration of the flights. For flyers with tall hair… keep in mind, your helmet MUST fit to fly. We offer hair covers (professionals call them ‘buffs’) in our merch shop that can be purchased at check in to save you some hair maintenance later.

What if I get motion sickness or eat before I come?

: Indoor skydiving is not similar to a rollercoaster in terms of stomach dropping feelings or motion sickness. You can check out the awesome restaurants at Patriot Place before or after you fly!

How many people can fly at once?

: As a first time flyer, you will fly your flight time with a certified instructor in the wind assisting you. Your class will all be in the flight chamber cheering you on. In future sessions you can gear your flights towards flying proficiency and being a certified flyer. Once you are certified to fly, you may fly with other certified flyers in whatever level ALL flyers in the wind at once are fully proficient at.

How high can I fly in the wind tunnel?

: The Freedom Wind Tunnel is 7 stories tall! As a new flyer, your flights will take place between 4 and 7 feet off of the safety net. You may choose to purchase an add-on flight in which your instructor will fly you up higher at the end of your flight. These are added to the package at the check out with your instructor, after your flight session, so that every one can feel out flying first before taking the adrenaline-filled leap of high-flying-faith! As you learn to fly in future sessions, you are signed off to fly up higher and higher all on your own!

What if I want to fly more time?

: Each scheduled class session is limited to 30 minutes. If there is open time at the end of your class session, the open time may be purchased in single minute increments. These minutes are added to the package at the checkout with your instructor, after your flight session.
